The metoject® PEN
Autoinjector with methotrexate for subcutaneous self-injection

You or your child have been prescribed the metoject® PEN and have practised using it under professional guidance. This modern autoinjector is filled with a methotrexate (MTX) solution and is made for subcutaneous injection.
In the following you will find information about your new MTX PEN, how to use it and answers to frequently asked questions. Subcutaneous injection under the skin: SC injection
If an injection is given subcutaneously, this means that something is injected directly under the skin into the fatty and connective tissue. The term subcutaneous comes from the Latin: sub = under, cutis = skin (SC). Subcutaneous injection can be an effective way to administer your MTX medication regularly, especially if taking it as a tablet is not well tolerated, not sufficiently effective or you have difficulty swallowing.
With MTX, an injection is only needed once a week.
metoject® PEN: Structure
MTX autoinjector for self-injection
2-step Auto-injector without release button
No button activation needed: to start the subcutaneous injection, you only need to press the pen all the way down onto the injection site. The injection then starts automatically.
Acoustic and visual signals
The acoustic signal at the beginning of the self-injection is supplemented by another signal which indicates a completed injection.
Needle shield
Due to the automatic protective mechanism, the needle always remains hidden - and your skin is safely protected against accidental injury: helpful if you are afraid of needles or syringes.
Inspection window
Successful injection is easy to verify: after the administration is complete, a blue plunger rod appears in the inspection window.
Doesn't roll and is easy to grab
The angular shape prevents the autoinjector from rolling away on uneven surfaces and can be gripped easily.
